FEATURED TESTS

Why all the Interest in Vitamin D?
PAML has seen orders for Vitamin D testing increase significantly from the same time last year. So, why is there all this interest in Vitamin D? As healthcare professionals, you know that Vitamin D is critical to the health of our bones and teeth in terms of calcium and phosphorus utilization. It has been suggested that Vitamin D has other roles in health that you probably haven’t heard as much about, including modulation of neuromuscular and immune function and reduction of inflammation to name a few. Individuals who have fat malabsorption syndromes (e.g., cystic fibrosis) or inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. Crohn’s disease) may be at risk of Vitamin D deficiency as well.
