Thomas O. Tiffany, PhD, DABCC, FACB

President/CEO of PAML partnerships: PACLAB, Tri-Cities Laboratory, Treasure Valley Laboratory, and Alpha Medical Laboratory

An accomplished scientist and business visionary, Dr. Tiffany is responsible for setting the strategic direction of PAML. With more than 30 years of experience in the laboratory industry, his results-oriented leadership style has led PAML to become an industry leader in reference laboratories. Prior to joining PAML, he held the position of research and development director and subsequently general manager of the MicroChemical Division at Instrumentation Laboratories. He received his doctorate in biochemistry/biophysics from Oregon State University, is board-certified in clinical chemistry and a fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemists. He has been published 49 times and holds 15 U.S. patents.

 


 


 

Rosalee Allan, BS, PHR

Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer

A skillful leader who thinks outside the box, Rosalee Allan oversees the organization’s overall performance and is a driving force in PAML’s strong growth. She is responsible for assuring the effectiveness of operations, deploying cost-cutting initiatives and developing task teams for identifying and correcting performance gaps and rapid-process improvement projects.

She received her bachelor’s degree in healthcare financial management from Whitworth College and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She holds PHR certification and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

 


 


 

Kurt Rogers, MBA, CPA

Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer

An expert in finance, Kurt Rogers directs the financial operations of PAML and its joint ventures. His experience in corporate finance has enabled PAML to grow its value and position the company for long-term, sustainable profitability. His responsibilities include financial reporting, business analysis, billing, and accounts-receivable operations for PAML and all its venture partners. Prior to PAML, he was a controller for several nationally-recognized laboratories. A certified public accountant, Kurt received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Western International University.

 


 

Noel Maring, MBA

Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer

With over 25 years of experience in the clinical laboratory industry, Noel Maring has extensive knowledge in the areas of sales, marketing, new business development and hospital joint ventures. He is primarily responsible for overall growth strategies for PAML and all its partnerships, as well as developing new markets and joint ventures for the organization. His expertise has contributed significantly to the development, implementation and management of PAML’s successful hospital-based laboratory joint ventures. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from San Diego State University and has a master’s degree in business administration from St. Mary’s College.

 


 

Joseph Schappert MD

Medical Director

Joseph Schappert, M.D. is a board-certified pathologist with 30 years of clinical laboratory and management experience. He has extensive knowledge in research, academia, commercial laboratories and integrated healthcare delivery systems.  Prior to coming to PAML, he was the Global Medical Director at ICON Central Laboratories and Vice Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in Manhattan. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, as well as a member of the American Academy for Clinical Chemists (AACC).  Dr. Schappert has co-authored over 30 manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters, and been presented academically on both a national and international level.

 


 

Julie A. Sanford Biggerstaff, PhD

Technical Director

A nationally recognized expert in constitutional cancer cytogenetics and FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) probe development and validation,

Dr. Biggerstaff has published many scientific articles in the field of human cytogenetics. As technical director for PAML and its joint ventures, she is responsible for expanding our cytogenetic capabilities. She has a focused interest in genetic counseling, with plans for developing additional resources in that area. She received a doctorate in human genetics from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas and is board-certified in clinical cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. She is a member of the Genetics Advisory Committee for the Washington State Department of Health.

 


 

Marguerite Busch, BS, MA

Chief Compliance Officer

Overseeing and managing all compliance issues is Marguerite Busch’s primary responsibility as PAML’s compliance officer and risk manager. She is instrumental in the preparation and implementation of the organization’s policies and procedures, as well as managing Medicare and Medicaid regulations, OIG guidelines, and HIPAA privacy and security rules. With in-depth knowledge of regulatory matters, she lends her expertise to our joint venture partners. She has a bachelor’s degree in medical technology and a master’s degree in organizational leadership, both from Gon­zaga University.

 


 

Jun Castillo, BS, MT (ASCP), MBA

Vice President, Office of Excellence; General Manager: Treasure Valley Laboratory, Idaho and MountainStar Clinical Laboratories, Utah

Jun Castillo has a proven track record in operational efficiency.

His responsibilities include safety, standardization, benchmarking, process improvement, and monitoring quality indicators. He has a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Saint Louis University in the Philippines and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Redlands. He holds certification with the American Medical Technologists, the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

 


 

William A. Dittman Jr., MD

Technical Director, Hematology

A specialist in both blood hematology and oncology, Dr. Dittman has facilitated the growth of cutting-edge technology for the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. His clinical interests are focused on hemostasis and thrombosis, flow cytometry and bone marrow pathology. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington and his hematology and oncology training at Washington University. He is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

 


 

Patty Ehrhardt, BS, MT (ASCP), MBA

Director, Esoteric Sales and Marketing

An accomplished leader in the expansion of services, Patty Ehrhardt has over

25 years of experience in the medical laboratory field. Drawing from a wealth of technical and management expertise, her primary focus is enhancing our hospital-based esoteric testing services. In addition to expansion of services, she is responsible for standardizing our current esoteric services and improving client communication. She lectures nationally and has been published in the Journal of Medical Technology, Advance, Probe, and Clinical Laboratory Management Review. She has a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in business administration from Eastern State University.

 


 

Marcy L. Hoffmann, PhD

Technical Director and Supervisor, Molecular Diagnostics

Highly skilled in managing the complex and ever-changing dynamics of molecular diagnostics, Dr. Hoffmann led the establishment of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory in 1999 and has been instrumental in expanding the esoteric testing menu. Select testing is offered in molecular genetics, molecular microbiology, and molecular oncology.  She has significant interest in developing clinically relevant molecular-based testing, implementing state-of-the-art test platforms, and providing high-quality, friendly services to PAML patients and clients. Under her leadership, the laboratory has implemented the first PCR-based tests offered at PAML and has developed a broad array of home-brew or laboratory-developed assays. She received a doctorate from the University of Idaho’s Department of Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry.

 


 

Lawrence M. Killingsworth, PhD, DABCC, FNACB

Vice President/Chief Science and Technical Officer

Developing PAML’s laboratory network and standardizing scientific and technical operations are two focal points for Dr. Killingsworth in his role as chief science and technical officer. His Technical Operations Group standardizes all aspects of laboratory testing and ensures that all testing sites remain at the leading edge of laboratory medicine. Dr. Killingsworth received his doctorate in Clinical Pathology from the University of Florida. Prior to coming to Spokane, he was on the faculty of the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina. His research has been devoted to development of techniques for protein analysis and the study of proteins in health and disease. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to laboratory medicine. He has authored over 100 publications and is co-editor of a textbook on proteins.

 



 

David Michaelsen, MS, RP

General Manager, Toxicology

Technical expertise and extensive laboratory research in both clinical and forensic toxicology are two strengths that David Michaelsen brings to the position. As general manager for both clinical and forensic toxicology, his responsibilities include oversight of analytical operations, marketing strategies, contract procurement, work flow and system analysis, cost efficiencies and day to day management. Ensuring the highest standards for scientific integrity are maintained for a drug of abuse program is his primary goal. He has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Eastern Washington University, a criminal justice degree from Washington State University and a master’s degree in forensic chemistry from Northeastern University. He is the RP for this SAMHSA-certified laboratory.

 


 

Karim Ouahchi, MD

Co-Director, Clinical Cytogenetics

With extensive knowledge in molecular pathology and clinical cytogenetics,

Dr. Ouahchi brings a combination of in-depth research, creative problem-solving skills and high-energy to his position. He received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine in Tunisia, then did research work on neurodegenerative disorders in Strasbourg (France) and at Northwestern University. He completed his clinical pathology residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, further specializing in molecular pathology and clinical cytogenetics at the Harvard Medical School Genetic Training Program in Boston. His research interests are in gene mapping of inherited disorders.

 


 

Ann Robinson, PhD, DABMM, FAAM

Director, Microbiology and Virology Laboratories

A principal investigator and national expert in the specialty area of clinical microbiology, Dr. Ann Robinson has authored 46 articles and 62 national meeting abstracts. Improving the clinical relevance of microbiology testing is one of her areas of interest. She received a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Chicago, is board-certified in medical and public health microbiology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Previously, she directed the microbiology and virology laboratories at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Hermann Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital and Hartford Hospital.

 


 

Bill Remillard, BS, MT (ASCP)

Technical Site Director

With an in-depth background in management from both the technical and operational ends, Bill Remillard provides strategic and overall direction of PAML’s technical operations. His responsibilities include new test development, standardization of laboratory methods and technical management. Prior to PAML, he served as Technical Vice President and Chemistry Division Manager for ARUP. He has a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from San Diego State University, is certified in medical technology by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and is a current member of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC).

 


 

Reza Saleki, PhD, FACMG

Director, Clinical Cytogenetics

An expert in the field of cytogenetics, Dr. Saleki received a doctorate in genetics from Queen’s University (Canada) and completed his ABMG training in clinical cytogenetics at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board-certified in clinical cytogenetics and a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics. Previously, he directed the Diagnostic Services at Signature Genomic Laboratories, where he was instrumental in the design, development and launch of the SignatureChipTM CGH microarray analysis for clinical diagnosis of unbalanced chromosomal abnormalities, an innovative approach for clinical diagnosis of unbalanced chromosomal rearrangements.

 


 

Sandra Thompson, BS, MT (ASCP)

Laboratory Director, SHMC

An accomplished executive with more than 30 years of experience in the laboratory industry, Sandra Thompson is primarily responsible for operations management and performance improvement. She received her bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Washington and is a member of Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) and American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC).

 


 

Kim Troyer

Director, Human Resources

Committed to contributing to our customers’ success by recruiting the highest quality talent to create industry-changing innovations, Kim Troyer leads the human resources department for PAML and its joint ventures. With over 16 years of experience in human resources, she brings a high level of expertise in benefits, compensation, acquisitions and mergers, and employee relations to the organization. Under her leadership, PAML strives to maintain its position as an Employer of Choice as well as its status as an award-winning “100 Best Companies to Work for in Washington State” -- awarded to PAML in 2007 and 2008 by CEO Magazine.

 


 

Sonny Varadan, MBA, PMP

Chief Information Officer

As chief information officer for PAML, Sonny Varadan leads the organization’s IT strategy and operations, including all core business systems development. A certified expert in project management, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in team building, quality assurance, analytics, software design, systems engineering and applications development to his position. He has a bachelor’s degree in corporate secretaryship from the University of Madras (India), post graduate diploma in Computer Science and master’s degree in business administration from Indiana State University.
