PAML, one of the nation’s leading reference laboratories, announced today that Francisco R. Velázquez, M.D., S.M., the company’s president and chief executive officer, will serve as a workshop panelist at the 2015 Executive War College, scheduled for May 5-6, 2015 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Executive War College is an annual conference for senior laboratory executives, administrators, and pathologists from around the world to learn practical methods for improving organizational performance and financial success of their laboratories. The conference draws laboratory professionals from all over the world and is hosted by The Dark Intelligence Group, a U.S.-based business intelligence source for the laboratory medicine industry.

The topic of the workshop, to be held Tuesday, May 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., is titled “New Business Opportunities in Molecular Diagnostics and Genetic Testing for Lab Owners and Investors” and will focus on innovative payment strategies, such as adding direct-to-consumer and employers to the Medicare and private payer mix.

Dr. Velázquez, a physician executive with over 30 years of experience in the laboratory industry, has been the president and chief executive officer of PAML, LLC for the last three years. Prior to that, he served as managing director of Nichols Institute and managing director/vice president for Focus Diagnostics in California. He had direct oversight for the reference laboratory testing business at both laboratories as well as the clinical trials at Focus Diagnostics. Nichols Institute and Focus Diagnostics have both been selected as Top Places to work in Orange County (California) for three consecutive years. Prior experience includes executive, faculty and medical leadership roles at universities in Texas, New York, Michigan and Massachusetts.

Dr. Velázquez trained at the Mallory Institute of Pathology in Boston, is board certified by the American Board of Pathology, and holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Management & Policy from Harvard University.
